On Friday, Apple opened their new store. I was watching this time-lapse movie of the first 24 hours after it opened and I saw two frames of some guy holding a sign early in the morning. I managed to find what is was in this movie of the 05:00 hour.

I wonder what her answer was.

Any chance you could divulge some of the details for those of us who don't care to download Quicktime?

The second video is a higher-feqeuency time-lapse video of the 05:00 hour of the morning after the store opened. Towards the end of it there's an Asian-looking guy that holds up 3 signs in turn: "Uschi Lang," "I LOVE YOU" "Will You Marry Me?"

CJO says:

That store looks incredible! I love building design that thinks outside the box.

This store definitely looks like it has potential as a landmark.

I went down there last night to get my Mac on and yeah, it's nice.

Not only is the Cube beautiful, but the inside of the store is really nice as well. Much larger than any others I've been to, even more square footage than the Soho store. And it's even more crowded! I'm told there's 300 employees. At a guess, 50 working there at any one time.

Directly across 5th ave from the plaza in which the Cube is built is a luxury apartments building that, you know, has places probably in the range of 25 million to 100 million dollars. Which makes me mad, becuase I reallywant a corner apartment, one side looking out onto Central Park and one side looking out the Cube.

dcormier says:

What? How big are the $25 million appartments? The $100 million appartments? Other than view, location and the small number of them with that view and location, what makes them worth anywhere near that much?

jpwain says:

Eh, 25 million isn't that much for a fancy apartment here.

It's NYC.

I saw a full-floor loft in Soho renting for $30,000 per month.

rnewhouse says:

That's just wrong.

For $30,000 a month I could probably rent a six-bedroom house with 40 acres in the suburbs of Portland.

dcormier says:

That's just wrong.

That sums it up nicely.

dcormier says:

Someone needs to come up a way to chart thread highjackings and the severity of those highjackings.
